Choosing Ideal Pest Control

3 Ways To Get Rid Of Termites

If you think that you have termites, you should make sure that you get rid of them as soon as possible. They can do a lot of damage to your house, and it can be hard for you to know that they are there until the termites have done a lot of damage to your house, which ends up being quite expensive for you. So, what can you do to get rid of them?

Call an Exterminator

The most practical thing you can do is to call a termite extermination professional. They are going to be able to come out ad inspect your house and tell you definitively if you have termites or not. Once they have determined whether or not you have these pests, they can give you the various options to get rid of them. Those options can include putting out bait traps around your house and in your yard. In the most severe cases, they may recommend that you have your house tented so that strong insecticides can be used to get rid of the termites.

Use Boric Acid

Boric acid can be found in borax, which you can pick up in the laundry detergent aisle in your local grocery store, or you can go to a hardware store and pick up boric acid as well. You can just sprinkle some of the powder around where you think that the termites are. They will walk over it and then track it back into their nest. The boric acid will dehydrate the termites and mess with their neurological system. Many insecticides that you can pick up will have some boric acid in them.

Try Diatomaceous Earth

Food grade diatomaceous earth is something else that you should be able to pick up easily at a hardware store or a garden supply store. It is a soft, powdery soil that is made up of the silica left over by fossils of small aquatic creatures. Like boric acid, you can just sprinkle this around where you think that the termites are. One benefit to using DE over boric acid is that DE is safe for use around pets and children. The diatomaceous earth will get in through the joints of the exoskeletons that the termites have and will also dehydrate them.

If you have termites, or think that you do, then you should call an exterminator to get rid of them, but you can also do things that can help with the eradication of them.
