Choosing Ideal Pest Control

How To Control The Ants Outside Of Your Home

Ants outside can be just as much of a nuisance as they can be inside of your home. If you have ants outside your house and they are becoming a bother, there's a good chance you could end up getting them inside your house sooner rather than later. If you have an excessive amount of ants around the exterior of your home, you need to get control of them before you end up with an inside problem. Read on for tips to get rid of the ant population outside your house.

Spray The Ants

You're going to want to spray the ants you see with a pesticide spray or use a granular pesticide that you moisten to activate. Either of these pesticides will kill the ants. If you're looking for something more natural, you can use diatomaceous earth and sprinkle it around the perimeter of your house. The ants will die when they walk through the diatomaceous earth. You can use any of these throughout your yard or near your home, but be sure to keep pets away from all of them until the dust settles or until the liquid pesticide is dry.

Remove Mulch

If you have mulch around your home and it butts up to your foundation walls, you'll want to remove this mulch, as ants will use it to nest in. You may notice a lot of ants in the mulch around your house. Ants like mulch, as the material makes it easy for them to nest in, and they may also find food in the mulch. They can hibernate in the mulch throughout winter, only to make their appearance come spring. Remove the mulch or move it so it's at least a foot away from the foundation walls of your home.

Keep Your Yard Clean

Keep your yard clean and free of debris that ants can feed off of, such as garbage or wood piles. If you have a wood pile, be sure that it's far from your home so that it doesn't attract ants to your house. Garbage should be kept in a garbage can, in sealed bags, and the cans should be kept away from your house as well.

If you have an ant problem outside your house, there's a good chance they're going to end up being an inside problem before long. Whether you have an outside or inside ant issue, hire an ant control exterminator to get rid of them for you.
